RSU / MBT Plants
Within the field of urban waste treatment (MBT plants), Tecnium has become a benchmark for supply turnkey installations of air collection and treatment, with the aim to eliminate odors produced in these plants.
Optimizations are performed to collect the air in the reception, pretreatment, fermentation, refining and maturation areas, including transfers and punctual intakes, with the goal of reducing the total air volume.
For odor treatment, specific technologies are used adapted to the existing pollutatns. We already have more than 20 references with flows of up to 550,000 m3/ h.
Odour Control on MBT Plants
Turn-key odor control systems including designing and suplying of air collection piping network, scrubbing systems and organic or inorganic biofilters.
Presence of H2S in biogas must be removed before send it to cogeneration engines, in order to avoid corrosion problems.
Lixiviates of such plants are usually polluted with organic or inorganic compounds such as NH3, CO2 or VOC’s. These waters must be stripped before disposing them
Gas treatment tecnologies
The use of environmental friendly technologies has been the motor of researching lines of last decades. This has allowed us to put up to date systems for gas cleaning and odor control through organic and inorganic biofilters
Biotrickling: TECNIUM BIO-TR
The high efficiency of BIO-TR enables the reconversion of your chemical scrubber installation by removing the reagents consumption and so removing the chemical products storage in your facilities.
Under this technology Tecnium supply multiple systems for gas treatment and odor control based on water or chemical absorption using wet scrubbers, jet venturis and cyclons.
Stripping: TECNIUM-DEGAS Subterranen waters, pond water, landfill lixiviates, manures, ultrafiltrated waters can contain disolved gases which have to

TECNIUM offers effective urban waste treatment plant solutions in the manufacturing industry. Here we’ll look at what TECNIUM has to offer in the sphere of RSU / MBT plants, focusing specifically on odor control in MBT and composting plants, biogas desulphurization, and lixiviate stripping.
TECNIUM has become a reference for the turnkey supply of air capture and treatment facilities within the urban waste treatment sector, with the ultimate mission of eliminating odors that occur in these plants.
For treating odors in the manufacturing industry, TECNIUM has developed specific technologies that are applied to existing contaminants. We already have more than 20 references with flow rates up to 550,000 m3/h.
TECNIUM develops the engineering and supplies the necessary equipment for air treatment and odor elimination facilities in MBT plants that use compost or produce biomethanization. These facilities can be divided into several sections depending on the treatment they provide.
Biogas is used in motor-generators, produced in landfills, sewage treatment plants and methanation processes. As a result, certain harmful compounds need to be eliminated. TECNIUM has developed different technologies that can be used for this purpose.
Biological treatments use biogas as a bioscrubber, with a special inorganic filler, in which a biofilm is generated that will produce the oxidation of H2S in the presence of oxygen and an adequate supply of nutrients. These treatments are a big investment but have low operating costs.
Chemical treatments are used when the presence of H2S is high. These are typically used in waste landfills with variable compositions. The investment costs are low, but several reagents are consumed and generated.
Adsorption treatments use suitable activated carbon supports, and H2S can be successfully removed at low concentrations.
Lixiviate stripping involves eliminating certain compounds that can interfere in subsequent processes.
NH3, CO2 or volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) can be eliminated by stripping or degassing. This is a process in which the volatile component is separated from the liquid effluent. Stripping is simple to install and relatively cheap to operate, making it suitable for many applications.
Ammonia (NH3) is often present in landfill lixiviate and MBT plants, so it is necessary to treat this issue carefully. A follow-up acid absorption step may be required (by using the likes of sulfuric or phosphoric acid) if the presence of ammonia remains high.
An air stripping process can be used to remove CO2. This is typically done when correcting the pH value of osmosis water. Water regularly has 100 ppm of CO2, but can be eliminated up to 99% via the stripping process.
Stripping technology cannot be used to treat the presence of all volatile organic compounds. The chemical properties and vapor tension of a compound, for example, need to be studied before deciding whether the technology can be used or not. TECNIUM has applications that can be used to eliminate chlorinated compounds of aliphatic chains, such as trichloroethylene and trichloroethane, for example.
H2S removal is used when biogas is enriched in methane. This is done by removing CO2 and H2S with the compression set at 9/10 bar. The lixiviate produced has a high concentration of H2S which is then separated by stripping, and deodorized afterwards.
TECNIUM is a specialist in providing effective urban waste treatment plant solutions in the manufacturing industry. Controlling odors in MBT and composting plants, biogas desulphurization, and lixiviate stripping are highly important areas that need careful attention in the industrial world.
